Japan: Study in English and broaden your world

Are you interested in studying in Japan, but need or want to learn in English? Doshisha University is part of MEXT’s Global 30 program, and provides exciting and challenging programs to students from all over the world.

Global 30 is a group of 13 universities who promote the internationalization of higher education in Japan. As part of this development, Doshisha University will open a new global centre for research and teaching in April 2011, the Institute of International Education.

The institute will bring together different disciplines on international affairs through the study of Japanese society, culture, economics, business, law, politics, policy studies and international cooperation. Students can develop a global way of thinking and improve their international communication skills.

The Institute offers two BA degree courses entirely taught in English:

  • International Education degree for up to 50 international students, and
  • International Specialization degree for up to 150 Japanese students.

Australia: Deakin student life revealed online

Deakin University student Sahil Balotra was selected to share his story of life as an international student on the Australia Network website.

The Student Postcards program is a great place to find out what it is really like to study in Australia, with video postcards revealing everything from study style, food and work to culture shock and friendships.

Sahil is studying biotechnology at Deakin University’s Geelong campus, just outside of Melbourne. Originally from Punjab in the north of India, he found it hard to adjust to the many differences at first.

“There are many cultural differences,” he says in his video postcard. “They enjoy so much freedom here – every child can follow their own dreams. They treat everyone as equal. The teachers treat the students like their friends.”
